Fishing Report for 3/08/2010

  Clark Fork

  • General:  879 cfs @ Turah, 2050cfs @ Missoula, 2620 cfs @ St. Regis.  Warmer weather is a good sign!  Midge and/or BWO fishing on the lower river.  Of course, nymphing with San Juan worms, prince nymphes, double bead stonefly nymphs, rubber legs, and small midge imitations will work and be your best bet.
  • Hatches: Midges
  • Fly Patterns:Stonefly nymphs like rubberlegs and double-bead stones, big princes, san juan worms, copper johns, pheasant tails, buggers, yuk bugs, sculpins, JJ specials
  • Other Information: Come check out the new Simms Vibram soled wading boots, and the new Abel Reels.  Both are now in stock!

Blackfoot

  • General: 494cfs @ Bonner.  Cold drainage. Good nymphing fishing now!  Nymphing and slow-fished streamers will be the way to go on the Blackfoot.  Stick with San Juans in red & pink, egg patterns, stonefly nymphs and black or dark olive streamers.
  • Hatches: Not much.  Stick to the basics, use a san juan and a rubber legs.
  • Fly Patterns:  big princes, san juan worms, copper johns, pheasant tails, buggers, yuk bugs, sculpins, JJ specials, eggs
  • Other Information: MISSOURI RIVER REPORT: 3990cfs @ Holter Dam.  Lots of heads up eating midges.  Nymphs are the easiest way to catch fish.   Streamers have started to catch some fish, and if they don't, try little nymphs like a red headed step child. Scuds have also been producing a lot of fish.

Bitterroot

  • General: 69 cfs @ West Fork, 226cfs @ Darby, 495 cfs @ Florence, 630 cfs @ Missoula.  GREAT skwala fishing is here! Lots of fish are looking up in the heat of the day.  If you see risers that won't eat your skwala try a small (18 or 20) adams, BWO, haze...etc.  Nymph fishing has been very good in the a.m.  Worms and dark stonefly nymphs will get the job done.  This South to North flowing river gets the most direct sunlight in the area, making it consistantly your best late winter/spring fishing rivers.
  • Hatches: Skwala's
  • Fly Patterns: san juan worms, copper johns, pheasant tails, size 20 - 22 midges
  • Other Information: Book now for your 2010 spring fishing trip!  The calender is filling quickly so call for availability. 1-800-297-8996.

Rock Creek

  • General: 224 cfs. Rock Creek will fish well all winter long.  Nymph Deep (6+ feet) and heavy.  Stick to the lower 10 miles or drive around to Gilles bridge.  Same nymphs and streamers as above.
  • Hatches:
  • Fly Patterns: Stonefly nymphs like rubberlegs and double-bead stones, big princes, san juan worms, copper johns, pheasant tails, buggers, yuk bugs, sculpins, JJ specials
