The Clark Fork is on the rise so expect the fishing to be poor. It will remain unproductive until this current push of water stabilizes. We suggest using bright colored nymphs and streamers due to the discoloration of the water. Expect to see numora's, drakes, and march browns during the warmest part of the day. Streamers will also be productive throughout the day, but like we said use bright colored patterns.
- Hatches: Look for Numora's, BWO (Blue Winged Olives), drakes and march browns.
- Fly Patterns: brightly colored Scuds, Prince Nymphs, Bead Head Copper Johns (also in red), Small Midges, Blue Winged Olives, Wooly Bugger's in black and green, Crawfish patterns and Sculpin patterns.
Blackfoot - General: 3330 cfs @ Bonner. The Blackfoot is on the rise. As a rule of thumb, when the water is on its way up expect the fishing to be slow. Definitely not the best bet until the water stabilizes and water temps warm up a bit.
- Fly Patterns: N/AHatches:Streamers, nymphs, drakes, and caddis on lower river
Bitteroot - General: 247 cfs @ West Fork, 2260 cfs @ Darby, 3650 cfs @ Florence, 3990 cfs @ Missoula. The Bitteroot is up and not a good option. If you do go out, look for some top water action as there are still (some) skwalas, small midges, grey drakes and BWOs. And as we all know nymphs this time of the year is always a safe bet. Also open up your streamer box and throw the standards, anything olive always seems to produce good results on the Bitteroot.
- Hatches: midges, BWO, skwalas, march browns
- Fly Patterns:skwalas, grey darkes, scuds, standard prince Nymphs and Copper Johns, Hares Ears, small midge patterns, BWO, Olive Wooly Buggers, Green/Olive Sculpins, Crawfish patterns.
Rock Creek - General: 1110 cfs. The Creek has been fishing well top to bottom. It is still mostly a nymph thing but look for fish hitting the top in the afternoon. As with all the water in our area expect the fishing to be slow the next few days because of the recent bump. The road is in good shape and the ice is gone so Rock Creek is definitely a good option for this time of the year, try it out and let us know how you do.
- Hatches: Midges, BWO
- Fly Patterns:small Egg Patterns, Scuds, Prince Nymphs, Red Copper Johns
