Guides & Staff

We've assembled one of the finest guide staffs in the Rockies here at the Grizzly Hackle in Missoula, Montana. Hailing from all over, our professional "trout bums" live to get all of our clients into fish. Whether you want to fish to heads all day long or want to learn the finer points of stripping streamers, they all love to do it.

Drew
Drew Miller is our head-guide and outfitter. He has developed a reputation over the years for not only being the best guide in Missoula, but one of the best in all of Montana. His love of fly fishing is contagious. If you want to fish with Drew, you'll want to book early. His calendar fills-up very fast. You can purchase his great hopper pattern, "The Miller Show Hopper" at the shop.
Dave
Dave Hufman has been one of our top guides for many years. Every year more and more anglers come to Missoula specifically to fish with Dave. He is a patient instructor, and has a wonderful sense of humor. There aren't too many guides who've spent more time in the boat over the past five years than Dave.
Tony
Tony Reinhardt is a patient instructor and a great guide. He has been with Grizzly Hackle since the mid 90's. He has a reputation for catching lots of fish, and serving some of the most spectacular shore lunches around. He and his wife, Brandy, also manage the Lodge on Butler Creek. You can book the lodge by calling the shop.
Kurt
Kurt Long was born and raised in Missoula and has been fishing since before he could walk. He has worked at the shop since 1997 (except for a break in '99 when he rode his bike cross-country), and is now one of our full-time guides. Anglers love Kurt's enthusiasm for both catching fish, and teaching them all aspects of fly fishing. If you've fished with Kurt, you've probably sampled his famous "Salmon a la Long." Nobody loves to fish more than Kurt.
Karl Karl Jones was born and raised on the rivers of the Pacific Northwest. An experienced trout, steelhead, and salmon guide, Karl's whitewater boating and fly fishing skills have earned him the respect of countless outfitters and guides. A float with Karl in his beautiful mahogany drift boat is an unforgettable fishing experience.
David
Hailing from Louisville, KY, David Baker is our retail manager and a guide. Having worked for the Grizzly Hackle for many years, David has proven to be a wealth of knowledge in both the fly fishing industry and in all things fishy. His passions include big fish, spey rods, and finishing wood drift boats.
Evan
Evan Phillippe grew up fishing the limestone spring creeks and mountain brook trout streams of eastern Appalachia. A never-ending search for bigger trout and deeper snow led Evan through Colorado before he moved to Missoula and joined the Grizzly Hackle in 2003. He is our outfitting manager as well as a guide, and will help you with all of your guided fishing arrangements, as well as with any lodging or transportation reservations you may need for your stay in Missoula.
Dan
Dan Shepherd is the managing partner of Grizzly Hackle. His personable nature has earned him the respect of countless customers and colleagues over the years. You'll rarely find a more good-natured person. Dan always loves to talk fishing, so call him or stop by the shop, anytime you want. He is also a very good fly fishing guide.
